Not Perfect but Purposed Plan

I have always been a planner.  As a child, I remember how missing one day of school could send my thinking into an anxious tailspin about how this could ruin both my short and long term plans-doing well on homework, dominating on a test, getting the best grade in my class, and having a notable G.P.A. Clearly, I understood the importance of not only having a plan but working it diligently.  And work it I did!
Look at my life’s plans: Graduate with high honors from a HBCU, check!  Obtain a master’s degree from an Ivy League institution, check!  Build a home, check!  Find a rewarding career, check!  Build my relationship with God, family and friends, check!
But there is one area in my life in which planning and working the plan has not gone so well.  To be honest, it caused me to question whether my planning process was purposeful and if my other accomplishments were even relevant.  For once in my life, my hard work and commitment to Plan A did not seem to pay off.  I never planned for working a Plan B.  This reality has been quite sobering and has slowly shifted my thinking about planning.
Without question, planning serves a function in all our lives.  It is a blueprint for where we want to go and what it takes to get there.  But there’s something to be said for being flexible when life does not go according to plan.  Sometimes it is best to surrender to other possibilities.  There is a chance that Plan B, C, D… will fulfill your destiny, and your new goals will be more relevant than Plan A.  This is unquestionably a hard reality to face and a difficult practice in humbling to something greater than yourself.  But I have to believe that my “latter will be greater.”

So friends, has there ever been a time when your plan(s) "failed" for the better?  Love to hear your story!

  3. Wisely said.. Plans are good but sometimes I feel they disappoint when they work out. Thats why I try to plan to a minimal extent and just live life daily
