Tuesday, July 24, 2012

What I Wore: Dress- Saks Fifth Avenue(B & R Thrift Store)/Earrings- (B & R Thrift Store)/Shoes- Guess (DSW)/ Watch- Michael Kors (Buy HERE)
While thrifting, do you ever pass on those floral midi-length dresses because they would be too much trouble or cost too much to get altered? Check out my video below to see an easy way to modernize such a dress without it costing a penny!

Thrifted Trends: Vintage Floral Romper

Monday, July 16, 2012

What I Wore: Romper- Dawn Joy Fashion (Value Village Roswell. Buy Similar HERE)/ Shoes- Mossimo Paisley Pumps (Target. Buy HERE)/ Belt- Chinese Laundry and Clutch (Goodwill North Georgia)/ Earrings- (Park Avenue Thrift Roswell)
The romper is such an easy go to piece for the summer, especially here in hot-lanta. It is a great alternative to wearing a summer dress. Plus it is an easy day to evening transition piece. But nothing beats finding a vintage romper at the thrift store, because you can be confident that your look is one-of-a-kind.

Fabuless Thrifter: Style Spot Run

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Her Fabuless Outfit: Swimsuit- Vintage ($3.99)/ Hat- Vintage ($4.99)/ Accessories- Earrings (.99) and Bangle Set ($4)
This week's Fabuless Thrifter is Style Spot Run. Based in Brooklyn, she inspires readers with keen sense of style and inspirational thrifted looks. "This is my most recent beach outfit and I have to say I never thought I would thrift a swimsuit," she said. "Never say never at a thrift store"

Where is your favorite place to thrift?
My favorite Thrift Stores are definitely Sal’s Boutique (Salvation Army) or Goodwill! I also love a good Midwest St. Vincent De Paul. Wherever I live, I stake out one or two convenient locations and frequent each as much as I can. My home away from home.

How long have you been thrifting?
Originally from the Midwest, shopping at garage sales was one of my favorite pastimes growing up. It was in college that I began to visit thrift stores frequently and after college when I had my first salaried job I became obsessed.

What's the most exciting thing about thrift shopping?
The endless possibilities! There is not a preset style, you are the style curator! Of course it is the thrill of the hunt that keeps me going back.

What's your most "fabuless" find?
My most fabuless find is definitely a 100% silk drop-waist sheer panel Chloe dress for $4.99 in cream. I'm saving it for my wedding...or my 30th birthday, whichever comes first!

Fabuless Thrifter: My Thrifted Closet

Thursday, July 5, 2012

Her Fabuless Outfit: Top-Gifted/Skirt-Thrifted (Goodwill, $3.75)/Scarf-Thrifted (Mega Thrift, $2)/Belt-Thrifted (Goodwill, $1)/Shoes- Shoe Show, $12/Earrings- Primark, $5 (London)
This week's Fabuless Thrifter is SheDel from My Thrifted Closet. Based in Winston-Salem, NC, SheDel credits thrifting with sparking her love for vintage fashion. Her favorite piece in her outfit pictures above is the scarf. "I wear it whenever I can and it really jazzes up the look," she said. "It made me feel like the natural haired Rosie the Riveter!"

Where is your favorite place to thrift?
GOODWILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “Ain’t we lucky, we got it” I find the most beautiful gems at the Goodwills in Winston-Salem. I also call Winston, the mecca of thrifting ;) I mean come on, shirts and bottoms are $3.75 each, dresses are $5, and purses/bags are $3. Need I say more?

How long have you been thrifting?
I have been thrifting since Spring 2010 and I haven’t looked back. Thrifting IS who I am.

What's the most exciting thing about thrift shopping?
It's definitely all about the hunt.  You never know what you are going to find. Sometimes I leave a thrift store with bags full of items and sometimes I leave empty handed, but I always want to go back. Actually, it’s more like, I HAVE to go back. My most favorite part of thrifting is going home knowing that I’m going to be wearing a piece that  no one else is wearing. I automatically look retro, vintage, and chic without even trying.

What's your most "fabuless" find?
Oh wow, everything? However, if I had to choose, I’d choose my floral vest. I absolutely LOVE that thing.

Hot Summer Trends: Tribal Print

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Dress- Mossimo (Target; Buy SIMILAR)/Shoes- Vince Camuto (Marshalls; Buy HERE or SIMILAR)/Earrings- Funky Flair Boutique/ Necklace- Borrowed from mom/ Assorted Bracelets/ Watch- Michael Kors (Macys; Buy HERE)

It has been a real hot summer here in Atlanta! So when I found this strapless mini-dress at Target in the clearance section, it was perfect timing and just right for 4th of July!  I loved the vibrant tribal print color too because I can pair it with a black blazer or cardigan when the temperature gets cooler.

The Vince Camuto booties were also a steal. I scored these from the Marshalls in Buckhead. They are the perfect color and a sexy alternative to flip flops or flats.

How are you keeping cool this summer?
Hope you are having a great holiday and an even better holiday weekend!

THRIFT TIPS: Five Steps for Thrifting Success

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

Are you a thrifting newbie? Will this be your first time going into a thrift store? I want to make sure that you have a great experience! The following tips are what I consider to be the tried and true way to have a memorable time thrifting. If you follow these five steps, I guarantee you will have thrifting success:

WEAR A THRIFTING UNIFORM. Some stores do not have dressing rooms or if they do the lines are long and they limit the amount of pieces you can take in the dressing. So wear leggings (or a skirt, dress) a close fitting top and shoes that are easy to slip on and off. This will allow you to try on clothes without getting undressed. Plus wear a crossbody bag to free up your hands for searching the racks.

BRING A LIST. To avoid getting overwhelmed and possibly buying too much, make a list of your wants and/or needs. Bring your inspiration style diary or tear sheets to serve as a visual guide of your must-have pieces. Buy only what you need, pieces that you love and wear immediately.

SHOP FOR ACCESSORIES. Shop for silk scarves, leather purses, vintage jewelry, and belts. Accessories are an inexpensive way to update your wardrobe. Look especially for the basic essentials that your accessory wardrobe may be missing, like a pearl necklace or black leather bag.

SHOP FOR TRENDS (and classics too). Thrifting is a guilt-free and an inexpensive way to determine if you would like a certain look or style. So go ahead and experiment with a new style or trend. Stock up on classics like black pants, blazers, button down shirts, denim shirts and denim jackets.

SHOP THE LABEL. Whether shopping for vintage pieces or high end brands, labels tell the story. Labels will identify if a piece is vintage or designer item; if the item is worth the price marked; and the care instructions for the piece. Click HERE for more details about shopping the label.

Below is my feature story on Fox 5 Atlanta, where I shared my thrift shopping tips. This will help you prepare for thrifting success too!  What tips would you add to this list?
