Thrift Haul of the Week: Summer Tops + Vintage Dress

Friday, May 19, 2017

As summer approaches, I knew that I needed to add some summer tops to my wardrobe. Because whenever I have to out for drinks or a quick run for ice-cream, my honeydoo prefers that wear jeans and a blouse, instead of dresses. I take it as a signe, that maybe he is tired of seeing me in dresses. So this trip, I decided to focus my thrift shopping on blouses only. However, blouses at Goodwill are priced at $5.99 and dresses are now priced at $6.99 a price increase from $6.36. So for an extra dollar, I would prefer to buy a dress. It makes getting dressed so much easier. So I ended up going home with four tops and one dress. I knew it would be a hard task, so my thrift sister came thrift shopping with me to make sure I stayed focused. She even helped me to pick out some of the tops. She actually went over to the dress section to pick out the vintage dress. I guess she felt a little sorry for me because she knows how much I love dresses.

What I Wore: Vintage Pleated Midi Dress

One of my favorite days of the year is Mother's Day! It's the designated day of the year to celebrate my mom and let her know how much she means to me. I hope that you great Mother's Day too, no matter the circumstance. Whether you spent the day with your mom, spoke to her on the phone or reminisced about the sweet memories you shared with her, always celebrate your mom on Mother's Day!

Our usual tradition is attend church, then go out to eat brunch at her favorite restaurant Adele's Cajun Experience. Well this year her favorite restaurant, became the favorite for everyone else, because their Mother's Day brunch was completely booked a week in advance. I was bummed but I was able to get reservations at Brine's Seafood Shack, a restaurant that I thought she would love.  Let's just say, being from New Orleans, we are very harsh critics when it comes to seafood.

Of course, I love getting dressed for the occasion, so I wore this vintage pleated dress that I scored from Goodwill of North Georgia, Decatur location. This dress was the color tag of the day, so it was an additional 50% off. My final cost was under $4. When I first saw this dress on the rack, I fell in love with the print and the pleated skirt. It is so lovely. I styled it with my satin Nina strappy sandals, also thrifted for only $3.

What I Wore: Black White Dress + Red Fascinator + Red Shoes

My favorite part about attending the Alpha Derby Party is getting ready for the Alpha Derby Party! I love themed events because I look forward to planning my outfit! Also, once I am at the event, I love to people watch and see how others interpret the theme too. I actually did a post about my favorite looks from the Derby Party HERE.

It actually took less than two weeks to decide on my thrifted outfit and the total cost was under $30. I already had this dress and wore it earlier this year to a friend's birthday party. The theme was black and white, so this dress was perfect. I scored it for only $10 at Civvies in Savannah, GA. By the way, this store has the most amazing vintage and resale fashion! My shoes were scored from Alexis Suitcase Consignment Buckhead location. These Steve Madden STS Heels retail for $129. Alexis Suitcase price was $19.

Now that I had the dress, the next step is deciding on a hat. I co-hosted a Derby Party event at Talbots and the Grand Diva also participated as a vendor. She came to the event with her collection of Derby hats and just my luck, I saw this red fascinator and immediately fell in love! I knew that I already had the shoes and I borrowed the clutch from my BFF Wendy of Just Jewels 4 U. So everything fell into place and I was Derby Party ready!

Events: My favorite looks from Alpha Derby Party 2017

I had the pleasure of attending the Alpha Derby, a weekend of events hosted annually on the first weekend of May by the Alphas of Atlanta. The festivities start on Friday with Kick-off Social, then the Derby Party on Saturday, and lastly the Jazz Brunch on Sunday.

The Alphas of Atlanta is composed of several Metro-Atlanta of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. chapters located in Atlanta, Morrow, Gwinnett, Cobb, Conyers, East Point, Henry County, and Dekalb counties. They collaborate to organize this three-day Kentucky Derby Themed weekend event. The Alpha Derby attracts thousands of attendees, not only from the Atlanta area, but nationally too.

The Derby Party was held on Saturday, May 6th at the City Club of Buckhead. It is a truly a fashionable event! Men are decked out in bowties and suits, while the women wear ornate hats and stylish dresses. The Derby Party features a cigar station, silent auction, cash bars, specialty food, live 8-piece band and DJs. Proceeds from the silent auction and the weekend festivities benefit local charities supported by the local Alpha chapters.

My favorite part about the Derby Party is checking out all the fashionable ladies and the dapper gents. Here are a few of my favorite Derby Party looks.

What I Wore: Neon Yellow Scuba Dress + Glitter Heels

This weekend we kicked off our 6th annual 2017 Thrifting Atlanta Fashion Week. Our kick-off event was an Awards Luncheon and Fashion Show. Over 100 of Atlanta's thrift fashionistas attended the event to celebrate our vibrant Thrifting Atlanta community. Click HERE for a photo recap of our event.

I wore this beautiful neon yellow scuba dress. I bought it from Goodwill of North Georgia Decatur location. Can you believe this dress was only $7. Although I would like to take all the credit for finding this dress, my thrift sister Wendy of Just Jewels 4 U, is the true winner. She  actually saw it first and then I begged her for it. She was such a doll for letting me have it. Then a week later, I scored the Steve Madden Carrson Glitter Heels from Uptown Cheapskate in Johns Creek, They retail for $39. My price $16.
