Events: September 2019 Thrifting Bus Tour Unclaimed Baggage Center

Wednesday, August 28, 2019

This month our Thrifting Atlanta Bus Tour is heading to Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro, Alabama. We will spend up to four hours shopping the main store which is 40,000 square feet plus their ETC. Building located next to the main store. This smaller store has three floors filled with extra discounted Last Chance items.

Unclaimed Baggage Center purchases the unclaimed luggage and cargo, from commercial airlines, buses, trains, trucks, and other transportation venues.  After they inspect and clean the contents from inside the luggage, they sell it in their store. Items that are considered unsaleable are recycled or donated to various charities.

The store has several departments including women’s, men’s, children’s, footwear, formal wear, electronics, sporting goods, jewelry, books and luggage. Every item is sorted, cleaned and tested. The products sell at 20 to 80 percent below retail price, so pricing is comparable to a consignment store.

Here is a photo recap from a previous visit.

Thrift Haul: Urban Renewal Consignment Dollar Sale

Monday, August 26, 2019

Urban Renewal Consignment a local consignment store in Marietta, GA hosted a Dollar Sale to raise money for MUST Ministries. MUST Ministries is a non-profit, faith-based organization helping people in our community break the cycle of poverty and homelessness. MUST provides basic necessities such as food, clothes and housing, free of charge. This event was a must attend because I would be doing my part to support the mission of MUST Ministries. The selection of fashion was name brand and designer labels. Dresses were $5, other clothing, accessories and shoes were $3.

Events: August 2019 Thrifting Atlanta Bus Tours (RECAP)

Wednesday, August 21, 2019

What I love more than thrift shopping, is to share my passion and be an inspiration so others would try thrift shopping too. I host the Thrifting Atlanta Bus Tour and take over 50 ladies on a chauffeured bus to shop up to six thrift, vintage and consignments stores. They enjoy exclusive discounts at each store and get a bag lunch too. But most importantly are the friendships developed during the day.

Our August bus tour shopped the following stores:

What I Wore: Rose Gold Stiletto Heels + Floral Mini Dress

Monday, August 19, 2019

Have you ever thrifted an entire look from head to toe in one thrift shopping trip? I don't often get that lucky, but I had one of those days when I scored these Rose gold stilettos and drop waist dress from Goodwill Covington.  The dress had no hanger appeal, but I tried it on anyway because I loved the print and the style. I am so happy that I followed my gut. Once I put everything together, it was a perfect look to host our Thrifting Atlanta fashion show.

Thrift Haul: Style Exchange Consignment $2 Dollar Sidewalk Sale

Saturday, August 10, 2019

What a fun weekend Thrifting Atlanta at the $2 Dollar Sidewalk Sale hosted by Style Exchange Consignment in Suwanee, GA. There were five racks of clothing plus tubs filled to the brim with shoes, handbags, accessories and more clothing. Since it was a consignment store, the majority of the items were designer and department store brands. Several of them New With Tags and off course they were current trends.

I set a budget of $20 but went way over that budget, but it was definitely worth it. The sale was held outside on the sidewalk so you could not go into the store to try on clothing. But you know that does not bother me at all. I always were my thrifting uniform so I can try on the clothing over my clothes.

Two of my friend also attend the sale with me. This is great idea because we could pull items for each and start our pile, then go through and decide on the pieces we loved and would take home. Here is a photo recap plus a video, so you can see each piece of my thrift haul.

What I Wore: Vintage Strapless Dress + Red Fascinator Hat

Monday, May 6, 2019

I attended the Alpha Derby Weekend at the Georgia World Congress Center. It is an annual fundraising event held on the first weekend of May, centered around the style and pageantry of one of the most well-known horse races in the world, The Kentucky Derby. This was my third year attending and I enjoy it because it is a party with a purpose, plus I love dressing up and wearing a derby hat.

Eight chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. from across the metro-Atlanta area all collaborate to host a first-class experience while benefiting local non-profit education foundations.

What I Wore: Swimsuit Coverup + Bodycon Dress

Friday, May 3, 2019

Swimsuit cover ups make a fashion statement on the beach and off the beach too. Especially the cover-ups that have a beautiful print. I scored this cover-up for $1 from Out of the Closet Thrift Store during the Thrifting Atlanta Bus Tour. I styled it with a pink bodycon midi dress.

ATLANTA - In early February, Candytopia, the candy-coated experiential adventure that brings a dreamworld candy factory to life, officially opened the doors of their Atlanta location at EDENS Lenox Marketplace (3535 Peachtree Road NE). After drawing sold out crowds to the Buckhead location, Candytopia is thrilled to announce a one time 6-week extension of its immersive confectionary wonderland in the heart of ATL through July 28, 2019. Candytopia in Atlanta has been a hotspot for locals to enjoy with their friends and family including guests such as Usher, T.I., Lil Yachty, Ludacris, and Kandi Burruss. They anticipate tickets for the extension to sell out quickly due to previous demand.

What I Wore: Maxi Skirt + Romper

Monday, April 22, 2019

Happy Earth Day! Did you know that second to oil, the clothing and textile industry is the largest polluter in the world. Thrift shopping is small way to make a difference to make sure that clothing does not fill up our landfills. If everyone in the US bought just ONE item used instead of new in 2019, it would save nearly 6 billion pounds of carbon emissions. ⁣⁣

In honor of Earth Day, I wore my maxi skirt that I recently thrifted from Goodwill Conyers. I paired it with a shorts romper that I styled as a top.
