Thrift Haul of the Week: Designer Denim Jeans

Monday, January 5, 2015

I love wearing dresses, but when I am not wearing a dress, you can find me in a pair of my favorite denim jeans. So I am always on the quest for the next best pair. I am sure that you will agree, that finding a great pair of jeans, especially while thrifting, can be a daunting task. Here are a few of tips and tricks for scoring your next favorite jeans:

1. Wear your thrifting uniform! Some stores do not have dressing rooms or if they do the lines are long and they limit the amount of pieces you can take in the dressing. So wear leggings (or a skirt, dress) a close fitting top and shoes that are easy to slip on and off. This will allow you to try on clothes without getting undressed and needing a dressing room. Just find a full length mirror and you are good to go.

2. Know what you want. Do some research (on-line or in-store) to determine the brand, style and color denim you prefer. I only thrift for department store or designer denim jeans, especially Seven for All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity. I have long legs and a small behind, so they fit me very well and last forever. However, if I find a lower end brand that fits well too, I will make an exception to the rule.

3. Try on and move around. When you try on jeans, make sure you move around in them. Bend your knees, do squats and jump around.

4. Be Picky. Only buy the jeans you truly love. Spend the time to browse each entire rack of jeans, to find exactly what I want. If you don't find anything do not give up. Just go jean shopping another day or at another store. It takes patience but once you find that perfect pair, you will appreciate it.

Below are my latest finds that I added to my jean wardrobe. I can't wait to style them soon!

  2. Oh my gosh I have always been so jealous of my friends who make stellar thrift store scores, scores of which never seem to come my way. Maybe I too have an issue with patience? Never thought of it that way... Maybe Rose's Daughter is on to something :) GREAT finds!!!

  9. I still have HORRIBLE luck finding the right pair of jeans in a thrift store. After all of these years! Doesn't help that I don't care much for jeans in the first place. I'm trying to change that stance this year. Like yourself, I love me a good skirt or a nice dress but I do envy folks rockin' jeans and rockin' them well. Currently, I only have three pair of jeans in my closet. THREE. I gotta do better.

    Happy New Year!

  10. I measure the waist and hips of my favorite jeans and take the tape measure when I thrift at places with no dressing room. I can usually tell if the cut is right by looking.
