Two Stylish Kays: November 2011

CRAVE Atlanta Meet & Greet

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Top- Thrifted Animal Print Cardigan (B & R Thrift Store)/ Skirt- Black Pencil Skirt (Express)/ Shoes- Gianni Bini (Dillards)/ Watch- Michael Kors (Macys)/ Legwear- Textured Tights (Marshalls)

Last night I joined the ladies of Pretty Girls Rock Dresses at the CRAVE Atlanta Meet and Greet. The event was held at the House of Adrene Boutique in Castleberry Hills. It was a great night of networking with stylish Atlanta entrepreneurs.

The hosts of the evening included (from L to R) Dea Winfrey of Pretty Girls Rock Dress, The Crave Company, Adrene of House of Adrene, Camille Hollisworth of The Crave Company and Carla Foster of Carson Bryce Trading Company.

Of course I met up with my two of my Fashionable Atlanta blogger family- Kerrie of VirtuousStyls and Eboni of Fashionista Next Door.
Most importantly, I was able to pick up a jar of Fresh Lemonade Body Scrub from Carson Bryce. That stuff is so addictive. Geesh!!  Especially with this fall weather, my skin is craving this product. Click HERE to see more pictures from the event.

Below are a few pictures of what I wore to the event. I actually went straight from work, so this is my work to evening look.

I was so excited when I thrifted this animal print cardigan last week at my fave thrifting spot B & R Thrift Store. It's so perfect because animal print is such a hot trend right now.

So Stylish: Ashaine Briscoe

Monday, November 28, 2011

This week's So Stylish Spotlight is Ashaine Briscoe of Ashaine Briscoe Inc. located in Atlanta, GA. Ashaine has been in the fashion industry for many years working as a wardrobe stylist, makeup artist and accessories designer. I had the pleasure of meeting her at the Blogging and Beauty event at J.Mont Studios. She contacted me recently to share some exciting news about her new role in the movie industry, and I am so excited to bring the interview to you first.

Here's our interview:

Tell us about Ashaine Briscoe?
Ashaine Briscoe is All Things Glam. My strong desire to create and share and my natural ability to fascinate people upon first impression is what began my brand. As The Glam Goddess, I have been able to package all of my talents to create a line of accessories and provide services as a make-up artist and a wardrobe stylist.

How does it feel that you are now adding writer, producer and director to your brand?
PHENOMENAL!!!  I've always secretly desired to write and direct movies, but I convinced myself it was so far-fetched that I wouldn't even allow my mind to exercise the thought. But I always knew when the time was right, I could do it. I credit my years of experience as a wardrobe stylist and make-up artist because it let me learn first-hand how to visualize & direct every aspect. I not only know what I want to see, but I know how to clearly communicate my vision, as well as instruct my crew on how to achieve it.

What inspired the storyline for your movie Roadside Assistance?
The storyline was built around the characters first. For example, Nick’s character was based upon my experience working in the fashion industry with tons of male models. And Ava’s character was based upon my interaction with women in different social settings. Both characters maintain a facade opposite from who they are and what you can see.

What do you hope your audience will walk away with after watching your movie?
I want the audience to walk away with four things: to realize that things aren’t always what they seem; a good laugh; a conversation starter and an issue to dissect and become enlightened about.

What was more exciting- filming the movie or seeing the finished product?
This is a tricky question. I would say both. The challenges that come with filming had my adrenaline pumping and energy levels sky high. It was a great feeling, almost like that of an athlete. Then the finished product had me feeling accomplished, proud and invincible. Especially speechless, like that of a mother of four and all four children are extremely successful citizens

Do you have any advice for women who want to enter into the movie industry?
My advice would be to find people in the industry and work with them in any capacity. Also be consistent because consistency is the key! Lastly, divorce all excuses and re-marry determination.

What is the release date for Roadside Assistance? What should we expect in the future from Ashaine Briscoe?
Roadside Assistance will be released by February 2012. Make sure you go out and watch it.
Click on video below to hear from Ashaine Briscoe as she talks about what we should expect from her in the future.

I love it when our ladies are doing big things! It inspires me to move forward and work on my goals, because with hard work and determination they will be accomplished. What is last thing you have checked off your bucket list?

If yes where? If no, why not?

What to Wear on Thanksgiving

Sunday, November 20, 2011

With all the planning for Thanksgiving dinner, we often forget one important detail-- the Thanksgiving outfit. Since spending time with family to meeting your future in-laws for the first time, now means several Kodak moments posted to Facebook or shared on Twitter, you want to make sure you look your best for the occasion.

I start the day at my mom's house, then visit with friends and eventually end my day at a house party. So if you, need something casual chic but stylish enough to take you from day to evening, here are a few suggestions:

These Sweater Tops will keep you warm and cozy, plus roomy enough for you to get several servings of turkey and sweet potato pie. As far as accessories, I suggest keeping it simple, with arm candy and an infinity scarf.
BCBG Cowl Neck Sweater, ZARA Batwing Top & PiperLime Sweater Dress

Can you tell my favorite fall fashion item are Boots? Yes, either one of these three will look savvy with your top. They will definitely make a style statement. Comfy?? Maybe not, but you can take them off for a while if needed. You will be around family and friends, so get comfortable. Just remember to wear matching trouser socks.
Steve Madden Booties,  Charlotte Russe Slouchy Boots & Chloe High Heel Riding Boots

Then lastly your Pants should be leggings, jeans or textured tights. They will have just the right amount of stretch and spandex, so I promise no matter how much you eat, you will feel slimmer throughout the day.
Express Faux Leather Leggings, Forever 21 Skinny Jeans & Avenue Textured Tights

This weekend I meet up with Eboni and Breck to attend Tim Gunn's Lucky Brand Fashion Show at Perimeter Mall. The fashion show promoted Lucky Brand's fall collection. When Breck called me early Saturday morning to invite me to the show, I was ecstatic because I heart Tim Gunn, but I was amazed that I didn't know about this event. I must be sleeping under a rock. But I'm rarely at the mall because I am too busy thrifting LOL.

Me with Fashionable Atlanta Bloggers, Eboni & Breck

Here are a few pictures from the show.

After the show, attendees who spent $100 or more at the Lucky Brand Store in Perimeter Mall, stood in line to get their personalized autographed copy of Tim's book and a professional photo with the style guru.

We ran into Talking With Tami too. She took the stylish pictures of us. You can check out her blog for more pics from the fashion show.

So Stylish: Funky Flair Boutique

Saturday, November 5, 2011

Welcome to my first installment of So Stylish! I decided to start a weekly feature to spotlight stylish people, places and events. It's my way to share with you my style inspirations, stylish friends, fashionable events and more. They say sharing is caring right? So I am only doing the right thing. Be sure to make your way to my blog every Saturday to see who will make the So Stylish Spotlight!

Kesha Denise of Funky Flair Boutique

This week's So Stylish Spotlight is Kesha Denise of Funky Flair Boutique located in Atlanta, GA. I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Funky Flair almost 4 years ago when I made my entrepreneurial leap of faith into the Atlanta fashion scene. She carries the most affordable pieces to update your wardrobe stylishly and on a budget. Her bubbly personality and a contagious smile matches her super cute trendy style, that I could not help but fall in heart with her and I'm sure you will too!

Here's our interview:

How would you describe Kesha Denise?
Kesha Denise is a fashion junkie! I eat, sleep, and live off being fashionably fly. Growing up in the land of "LaLa" (Los Angeles), I became interested in the world of fashion at the tender age of two, the day my mommy took me to the LA Downtown Fashion District to purchase my very first pair of patent leather Mary Jane shoes. This visit became my inspiration for Funky Flair Boutique.

Why did you start Funky Flair Boutique?
I started Funky Flair Boutique because of my love and craving for fashion. I adore colors, materials, prints, and fabrics and it just made sense to me. Also, I hate mall shopping - why would I want to look like the Macy's or Neiman Marcus mannequin or like every other woman out and about in the city. Boutiques have unique pieces and I consider myself that way too!

Who is your target customer? What types of products do your carry?
My target audience is a woman 18-45 who loves fashion and seeks an edgy look. She is a sexy mom, a business professional or a socialite. I carry everything that she would need: apparel, jewelry, handbags and more. Most importantly, my pieces can be worn to the office and transitioned to a night on the town.
Kesha Denise at Atlanta's Swapnista Day Party

What is the price range for your boutique? How can we shop with you?
I pride my boutique business on being very affordable! My accessories start at $12 and apparel under $80. You can shop with me ONLINE or at a local trunk show.

I love this Shredded Sleeve Top from Funky Flair Boutique!!
What sets you apart from other boutiques?
I give phenomenal customer service!! Additionally, the merchandise that I carry is handpicked by me. It has tons of personality and ranges from chic, casual, funky, or couture. So whatever your mood, I've got you covered.

What's HAUTE at Funky Flair Boutique?
Everything is HAUTE at Funky Flair Boutique, especially the exceptional affordable prices. Come to my upcoming trunk show during Shecky's on November 14 & 15 at the Biltmore Ballrooms, 817 W Peachtree Street Atlanta GA 30308. Please stop by my booth, I would love to meet all of you!

Isn't she a doll? I am so happy to share my So Stylish friend and soror with all of you! Be sure to send her love by liking her on Facebook and following her on Twitter too.

Here are some general guidelines to help you decide what to wear (plus these dresses are all $60 or under):

Dressy Casual- This is step above casual, a much more dressed up version. Wear a dress or dressy slacks with a blouse.

Festive Attire- It can be dressy or casual, just add a bit of sparkle to put you in a festive mood.

One Shoulder Sequin Dress from Nordstrom Rack- $59.97

Cocktail- A dress, like the LBD, is always appropriate. Wear a dress that is at least knee length or something fun and flirty.

Black Dress from Dillards- $44.80

Black-Tie Optional or Black Tie- This is still a formal event but with a little bit more flexibility. Choose between a cocktail dress or long formal gown.

Win this dress from Shabby Apple! Contest ends today at 11:59 pm EST!

White Tie- Think of this as red carpet worthy attire. Wear you most formal floor length dress.

Off-White One Shoulder Dress from Fashion Envy- $45 3-day rental
These dress codes can be a bit confusing, but when in doubt always shoot for being overdressed. You will always fit right in!
